Fundraiser prepares to run in aid of local hospice

A local man will be racing around the streets of Carlisle on Sunday 4 October to help the care, support and activities provided at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

This year’s Great Cumbrian Run will be special for Dennis Henderson as he runs in aid of the local charity. Dennis, who is a member of the Penrith Players, will be joined by over 30 Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw fundraisers on the start line as they support the local hospice’s team of nurses and specialist doctors.

Dennis explains, “I chose Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice because of the fantastic work they do locally making such a difficult issue into a positive experience as they can.

“I chose to take part in the Great Cumbrian Run following a New Year’s resolution to get fitter and lose weight. I now exercise four times per week and have lost over a stone and wanted to find a new purpose to spur me on. The Great Cumbrian Run and supporting Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice has given me a fresh and not just a personal impetus.

Every runner taking part in this year’s Great Cumbrian Run will have their own memory, reason and purpose for completing the 13.1 mile course. Whether it is to set a personal best or to raise money in aid of charity they will all create memories which will last a life time.

Dennis added, “I am most looking forward to finishing the Great Cumbrian Run in one piece and ideally in under two hours, but I’d settle for the former. I am also praying that it won’t be wet and windy.

“As well as running on behalf of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw I am heavily involved in another local charity, the Penrith Players. I have just played Louis, the psychopathic hitman and old lady hater, in the production of the Ladykillers, but I promise to be nice to everyone one at the Great Cumbrian Run and all those kind enough to support me and these great local causes.”

The money raised by Dennis and the Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw fundraisers will help the local charity provide care, support and activities to local adults and children with life limiting illnesses. This care and compassion is extended to all of the patients’ family, friends and carers.
