Local solicitors back Hospice’s Make a Will campaign

During spring, a host of local solicitors with offices in Kirkby Stephen will be supporting a local hospice’s Make a Will Month campaign.

This April Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice in conjunction with Kilvington Solicitors, are offering the local community the opportunity and time to talk about their will and the future. In return for an affordable donation to the Hospice people will receive a professionally written will during the month.

Last year the local charity hosted a thank you evening to celebrate the success of the 2014 Make a Will Month campaign. Representatives from Cartmell Shepherd and Burnetts visited Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw to see firsthand how the money which they helped to raise supports local adults and children with life limiting illnesses.

The local hospice is encouraging other solicitors throughout Cumbria to get involved with Make a Will Month during April and in the future by donating their time and skills for one month.

Last year the kindness and generosity of people from throughout Cumbria raised over £6,000 through the Make a Will Month campaign to support Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw. This year Kilvington solicitors will again be offering their services free of charge throughout April, all that people have to do is contact them directly and quote Make a Will Month.

Karen Durden, Legacy Fundraising Manager, said “Making a Will and keeping it up to date is a really important thing to do and to ensure that your loved ones are looked after. We realise that your family and loves ones will always come first but any gift left to the hospice, whatever its size, is extremely important to us.”

To take part in the Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw Make a Will Month campaign people are not required to make a gift to the Hospice in their will, but the Hospice would of course be delighted if people chose to do so.

If you, your family or loved ones would like more information about Make a Will Month or if your solicitors would like to get involved in the campaign please contact Karen Durden on 01228 817607 or visitwww.evhospice.org.uk/makeawillmonth

Cumbria’s biggest cupcake party in aid of local hospice

The sweet smell of mouth watering cupcakes and delicious cakes will fill people’s kitchens throughout the county this April at Cumbria’s biggest Cupcake Party.

A local hospice is now encouraging people to get into the kitchen and join the Cupcake Party by hosting their very own party at work, school, home or community centre on Thursday 17 April. With the home baking craze continuing to sweep across the nation this is the perfect opportunity for people to show off their culinary skills and raise money for Eden Valley Hospice.

Last year over 20 cupcake parties, including parties at Aztec Soft Play, Burnetts Solicitors and the 5th Carlisle Guides, raised over £4,600 to support the care provided by the Hospice’s dedicated team of nurses and specialist doctors. This year the Hospice is hoping to build on this success with more parties taking place this Easter.

Emma Marshall, Hospice Fundraiser, said “Eden Valley Hospice is hoping that individuals, organisations and companies throughout Carlisle, Wigton and the surrounding towns and villages can join Cumbria’s biggest Cupcake Party. It is a fantastic, fun and tasty way to support the work of your local hospice and celebrate Easter this April.”

Alternatively, if cupcakes are not your speciality in the kitchen the Hospice are also encouraging people to host a coffee morning, cake sale or a traditional Easter tea party in aid of Eden Valley Hospice.

If you, your business or community group would like to join Eden Valley Hospice at Cumbria’s biggest Cupcake Party please contact Emma Marshall on 01228 817656, email emm.marshall@edenvalleyhospice.co.uk or visit www.evhospice.org.uk/cupcake
