A local woman will be running across a national border in aid of Eden Valley Hospice on Sunday 21 July.
This year’s 10km Cross Border Challenge will be special for Cherie Sykes as she will be running in memory of her mother who sadly passed away last year after an 18 month battle with cancer. Cherie’s chosen charity for this year’s event will be the local hospice where her mother was cared for.
Cherie explained, “This is the least that I can do for Eden Valley Hospice. The Hospice helped Mom and I wanted to give something back and help other people. It is always good to give something back and always nice to give.”
During her battle with cancer Norma attended the Day Hospice at Eden Valley Hospice, as well as spending weeks on the Adult Inpatient Unit in order to balance out her pain medications. The Hospice’s dedicated team of nurses and specialist doctors provide physical and emotional care and activities to local adults and children with life limiting illnesses.
Cherie continued, “My Mom would be so proud that I am helping Eden Valley Hospice and improving my fitness. I never walk when I am training and I am trying to get a better time on the day.”
Do you want to run for the Hospice? You could join Eden Valley Hospice’s group of ‘Team EV’ runners pounding the streets of Newcastle at this year’s Great North Run. The Hospice has a handful of places left for the event giving the local community the opportunity to join the 17 Eden Valley Hospice fundraisers at the start line of this year’s event.
